Chandīgarh: Hours after voting for the Punjab assembly elections ended, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said on Sunday he was confident of winning the two seats the Congress leader is contesting by a healthy margin.

Hitting the national AAP official, Arvind Kejriwal, the Punjab chief minister said he was a liar who reversed his statements and often apologized to people.

“I win by a good margin in both regions where I contest…Arvind Kejriwal (National AAP Organizer) is a liar, he tells big lies and backslid or apologizes at times,” Punjab CM Channi told ANI.

Last week, Kejriwal claimed that Punjab CM Channi was losing in both constituencies in Assembly polls. The AAP conducted three polls and in all of them it was leading in both seats, the Delhi CM said.

The Punjab Chief Minister further castigated the AAP saying that if it comes to power there will be no change as the party has leaders who have been rejected from all sides.

“If instead of the Congress, the AAP comes to power (in Punjab), there will be no change, because they have political leaders who are rejected from all sides. They are neither revolutionary nor him (Arvind Kejriwal) a disciple of Bhagat Singh,” said CM Channi.

Expressing confidence in the party’s victory in state polls, CM Channi earlier in the day said Congress would form the government with a two-thirds majority in Punjab. Adding: “People support Congress in huge numbers. There is overwhelming support for the party among voters.”

Single-stage polling was held in all 117 Punjab legislatures on Sunday. The state recorded over 68% voter turnout. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
