By James Arkin (Oct. 18, 2021, 7:32 p.m. EDT) – The Senate upheld Judge Gustavo A. Gelpà in the First Circuit by 52 to 41 on Monday, making him the sixth appeals court judge to gain approval of the Senate since President Joe Biden took office.
Judge Gelpà is a longtime federal judge, having been appointed by former President George W. Bush to the District Court of the District of Puerto Rico in 2006 after five years as a magistrate judge. He has been the court’s chief judge since 2018. He will only be the second judge of Hispanic origin and the second judge from Puerto Rico to sit on the first circuit ….
