LAHORE: Rejecting amendments to NAB laws via ordinance, Senate PPP House Leader Sherry Rehman vowed that her party would reject the bill in the upper house of parliament.
“The PTI government clearly has an ulterior motive behind this ordinance, issued with manifestly evil intent, which we will reject in the Senate,” said Senator Rehman. The government is “determined to change the whole law to save” one person so that their scandals remain secret.
“Once again, the PTI government has disrespected Parliament by issuing an ordinance that is in flagrant violation of the Constitution, when in fact it should have consulted the House on this serious matter,” said the senator.
Continuing her tirade against the government of the day, the senator wondered why the government had passed the ordinance when the country’s accountability laws made it clear that consultation with the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly was needed to grant an extension to the NAB chairman. .
“The PPP worked hard for years to build unity and consensus when we were in power, as the PTI government continues to push the boundaries of authoritarianism and undo our hard work. The irony is not lost on anyone that on the one hand, the Prime Minister promises a “Pakistan without corruption” while on the other, he no longer respects the constitution “, declared the senator.
