UDHAMPUR, November 1: Reiterating the demand for a separate constituency for the Panchari-Landar-Bhamag region during its day-long tour of Galiote, Lander, Katti, Lattiyar, Kultiyar, Panchari and Meer Panchayats, the former congressman Balwant Singh Mankotia addressed protests to the Panchayat Level.
Addressing the rallies, he said this area cannot develop until it becomes a separate constituency of the Assembly. “This remote hilly region falls under three Assembly constituencies such as Reasi, Chenani and Udhampur and development here is not possible until a separate Assembly constituency is created for this region,” said he explained and stressed that the time has come to fight united for a separate Assembly.
Mankotia appealed to the members of the Boundary Commission to visit the whole area and take the opinion of the people and then decide. He said that if the Gurez region of Kashmir can be a Legislative Assembly constituency with only 14,000 voters, then why this hilly region with over 40,000 voters cannot be given a status of separate legislative assembly?
Mankotia also drew attention to the slow road works from Kainthgali to Galiyot and called on the administration to take notice. He also requested that the outstanding MGNREGA responsibility of the workers for the years 2016-17-18 of the workers be cleared as soon as possible. He also highlighted the difficulties faced by the populations to benefit from Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the crop losses due to heavy rains and hailstorms in this region last week.
On this occasion, the local leader Surjit Singh, Sarpanch Shamsher Singh, the former Sarpanch Rajinder Sharma, the senior leader Kulchattar Singh, Harjeet Singh as well as many Panchs Sarpanchs and the inhabitants were present in large numbers.
