Kerala Police on high alert in Kannur after reports of possible clashes RSS, SDPI, political violence in Kannur

Thiruvananthapuram: After intelligence reports of possible clashes between RSS and SDPI workers in Kannur, the Kerala Police are on high alert.

Kannur, the politically unstable district of Kerala, which has witnessed several brutal political assassinations, is tense after intelligence reports.

The recent provocation is the explosion of a bomb outside the residence of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker, Sudeesh, at Chavassery in Mattanur. The incident happened on Thursday evening and police said it may be in retaliation for a bomb thrown at the office of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) a few weeks ago closer to this location.

Sudeesh is arraigned as a defendant in the case.

State intelligence services flagged the possibility of escalating violence and ordered police to prepare for any eventuality.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI-M Secretary of State MV Govindan, Outgoing Speaker of the Legislative Assembly AN Shamseer and CPI-M Politburo Member and former Home Minister, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan are all from the district. While Kannur district has witnessed brutal political killings in which the RSS and CPI-M were allegedly involved, there were also clashes between RSS and SDPI workers.

RSS Kannur district chief Ashwini Kumar was brutally killed in a moving bus by SDPI cadres on March 10, 2005, as he was traveling from Kannur to his hometown of Iritti, on the outskirts of the district. This was allegedly in retaliation for the killing of Mohammed, a local SDPI worker in the area.

Shyamprasad, head of ABVP and RSS shakha shikshak, was killed by SDPI workers on January 18, 2018 and the RSS retaliated with the killing of Salahuddin, an SDPI worker at the same location on September 8, 2020.

Police are concerned that such incidents of bombs being thrown at party offices and residences of active workers of rival parties could lead to major clashes and as a result, state intelligence has already notified district police. the possibility of clashes in the Chavassery region. of Kannur district.

CPI-M leader P. Jayarajan was hacked at his residence one day in Onam by RSS workers in 1999, and in retaliation, BJP Yuva Morcha State Vice Chairman KT Jayakrishnan, was brutally murdered in the classroom of the primary school where he was teaching. The incident happened on December 1, 1999.
