Johor Assembly rejects proposal to discuss JTPD membership

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today rejected a proposal to discuss the involvement of opposition MPs as members of the District Development Action Committee (JTPD) .

Johor Assembly Speaker Suhaizan Kaiat said a total of 28 state assembly members voted against the proposal, while 27 assembly members voted for, through by a two-minute secret ballot.

Previously, Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said that the state government has requested an explanation from the federal government on the matter and, thanks to comments from the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department , the term assembler in the JTPD referred to the members of the assembly. of the government bloc.

“Feedback from the ICU through a letter dated November 18, 2021 indicated that at the moment the position of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the State Assembly within of the Action Council for the Development of the State (MPTNg) and the JTPD complies with Directive no. 1 2020.

However, Hasni said the state government was happy to invite all members of the Pakatan Harapan assembly as observers to the JTPD meeting, meaning they would be invited to attend every meeting.

“Opposition MPs can also submit proposals to the JTPD chairman of their respective constituencies. Unfortunately, the opposition rejected the offer.

“Therefore, the state government has no other choice and will fully adopt Directive No. 1 2020,” he said.

Hasni, when tabling the 2022 state budget on Nov. 18, said that Johor’s 56 MPs, including those in the opposition, would receive a fixed allowance of RM200,000 per year.

Apart from that, he said that the state government also agreed to invite members of the opposition Assembly to participate in JTPD meetings as observers. – Bernama
