Thiruvananthapuram: Reiterating the allegations against IUML chief PK Kunhalikutty and his son, MP Thavanur KT Jaleel also raised questions about the alleged financial irregularities against them in the Kerala Legislature as well.
During the assembly’s question-and-answer session, Jaleel asked about the deposits of Kunhalikutty’s son at Malappuram AR Nagar Service Cooperative Bank.
He pointed out that the Reserve Bank did not allow NRE deposits in 1,600 banks that were registered as cooperative societies providing agricultural loans. âAR Nagar Cooperative Bank falls into this category and NRE deposits are not allowed here. When that is clear, how one considers his son’s bank deposits to be NRE deposits, âJaleel asked the assembly.
Jaleel asked the assembly whether or not the bank had received permission from the Reserve Bank for NRE deposits. Responding to his question, Cooperation Minister VN Vasavan said: âDetails are not available to answer the question now. It can be answered after gathering details about it.
Meanwhile, opposition leader VD Satheesan said Kunhalikutty did not tell the assembly that his son’s deposits at the bank fell under the NRE category. He also criticized Jaleel for raising such personal allegations in the assembly. Kunhalikutty also denied Jaleel’s claim. âThe money was transferred online through the SBI account; this is not an NRE repository. Raising allegations by distorting the facts cannot be admitted, âadded Satheesan.
Jaleel also alleged that Kunhalikkutty laundered millions of black money under the veil of worship centers. Jaleel plans to approach the Law Enforcement Branch with a petition to investigate this matter.
