DUN will allow me to contribute more to policy planning

Wee addresses the press conference.

KUCHING (December 13): Dato Wee Hong Seng believes that being both the MP for Padungan and the mayor of Kuching South, he could contribute more to the policy planning of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) candidate for Padungan believes that if elected he should be able to “get things done more effectively” as both MP and mayor.

“Not only would I follow the policies developed at DUN as mayor, but I would also be involved in drafting those policies,” Wee said at a press conference held at SUPP headquarters here yesterday.

Wee, 59, also stressed that the main role of an elected official is not to “just make noise” in the DUN, but to be actually heard and to accomplish the tasks that need to be done.

“We are not the ones who go to DUN and start lashing out at negative things and creating hatred (against the government) among the people.”

In a statement alluding to a response to criticism that he could become a member of the assembly while serving as mayor, Wee said Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, who is also candidate for Padungan, is already a member of Parliament. for Stampin, which covers the state ridings of Batu Kawah, Kota Sentosa and Batu Kitang.

So, he said as an MP, Chong already oversees three state constituencies under the Stampin parliamentary zone.

“Please give me five years. I want to prove to you that I can serve and that I can feed Padungan. If I couldn’t do this job, I wouldn’t wait for you to kill me; instead, I would retire on my own, ”Wee promised.

Besides Wee and Chong, Padungan is challenged by Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) President Lina Soo and Raymond Thong of the Bumi Kenyalang Party (PBK).

Meanwhile, SUPP standby candidate Milton Foo, who also attended the press conference, said DAP incumbent Violet Yong had nothing to show despite having represented the constituency in the past. Last 15 years.

“The gist of what she has always done has been to blame the Minister of Local Government and State Housing, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng whenever people faced a problem. “

Foo said anyone can become an elected official if the only skill required is to point fingers whenever a problem arises.

In this regard, he hopes Pending voters will give him a chance to serve them and rebuild the constituency in terms of infrastructure.

Separately, SUPP Batu Lintang candidate Sih Hua Tong said he would launch his manifesto today, and more announcements will be made later.

“Flood mitigation and improving the livelihoods of residents are among the priorities I would focus on if I was given the mandate to serve in Batu Lintang.”

Sih also hoped that there would be no party jump, regardless of which political camp wins the siege of Batu Lintang on December 18.

“All politicians must respect the mandate of the voters,” he added.
