BJP’s Sanjeev Balyan meets with BKU leader, day after Tikait withdrew statement asking for support for RLD-SP alliance

BJP Lok Sabha MP Sanjeev Balyan met Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Chairman Naresh Tikait at Sisauli village in Muzaffarnagar on Monday ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) President Naresh Tikait had undergone a medical procedure a few days ago and Balyan had visited Sisoli to inquire about his health and welfare.

Sanjeev Balyan told ANI today after meeting, “We are like a family. We continue to meet often. From now on. I came here to find out about his health. He is recovering well. had a good meeting.” This meeting is significant as it is linked to the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh. Notably, on Sunday, Tikait called for supporting the Rashtriya Lok Dal-Samajwadi party alliance in the upcoming assembly polls.

However, after a few hours of the meeting, he withdrew his statement and said he did not support anyone. So far, Samyukt Kisan Morcha, which is the umbrella organization for several farmers’ unions, and BKU have refrained from promoting a political party.

On January 14, Tikait traveled to Sisauli and met with RLD candidates from Budhana and Meerapur seats of Muzaffarnagar. In addition, Shiv Sena Upper House MP Sanjay Raut met with Rakesh Tikait on January 13. “It was not a political meeting,” Raut told ANI.

Rakesh Tikait is due to travel to Lakhimpur Kheri on January 21. He told reporters on Saturday he would meet the farmers there and decide the future direction of the farmers’ unrest. Politics leaders meeting farmer leaders Naresh Tikait and Rakesh Tikait are crucial ahead of the assembly polls.

The poll in Uttar Pradesh will be held on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27 and March 3 and 7 in seven phases. The counting of votes will take place on March 10. (ANI)
