The BJP training for the presidential election will especially focus on new MPs and MPs who did not have a chance to vote for the presidential election before.
The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Wednesday began the process of training senior state party officials on the process for the presidential election scheduled for July 18.
The President is elected through a proportional representation process in which MPs and MPs (except those who are appointed) vote. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the highest constitutional post is Draupadi Murmu, while the opposition nominated former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha.
The BJP officials present at the training session will in turn explain the voting process for the presidential election to the Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in the states. A separate training session will be held for Members of Parliament (MPs) in the nation’s capital over the weekend.
During the party’s national executive committee meeting which recently concluded in Hyderabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi specifically mentioned the training of MPs and MPs to ensure that no vote is wasted. “There have been instances of mistakes made in the past which led to the vote being declared invalid. To rule out such mistakes, the party takes no risks and undergoes proper training,” a party official said.
The official said the party will especially focus on new MPs and MPs who did not have a chance to vote for the presidential election before.
The electoral college for the presidential election comprises 543 Lok Sabha, 233 Rajya Sabha and 4,033 members of the legislative assemblies. The total value of the votes of the parliamentarians is 5,43,200 and that of the members of the assembly is 5,43,231, totaling 1086431.
Ahead of the presidential election, BJP National Chairman JP Nadda will host lawmakers at a dinner on Saturday. Prime Minister Modi is also expected to address the parliamentary party’s executive committee this weekend.
A meeting of Rajya Sabha leaders ahead of the monsoon session will also take place on Sunday. The meeting will be held at the residence of Vice President Mr. Venkaiah Naidu.
