Assam Legislature approves changes to Livestock Preservation Act

The Assam Legislature on Thursday passed the Livestock Preservation Law Amendment Bill to further strengthen the law.

The new additions to the bill will make it easier to transport livestock for agricultural purposes and ensure tough penalties for livestock smugglers.

“In our mission to strengthen livestock protection in the state, we have made an amendment to the Livestock Preservation Act 2021. The new additions will make it easier to transport livestock for agricultural purposes and ensure strict penalties for livestock smugglers, ”Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa said. Sarma tweeted.

One amendment is that the appropriate court, when approached by the police officer, may order the sale of the seized vehicle / conveyance, including the boat, vessel, etc., with the exception of livestock, through a public auction, after being presented to the appropriate court in any investigation or trial.

The Assam Livestock Preservation Bill, 2021, was passed by the state assembly earlier this year, replacing the Assam Livestock Preservation Act, 1950.
