2022 Art Competition Flyer

This year’s theme: “Healthy Lifestyles in Communities of Color”

In celebration of Minority Health Month, the Albany County Legislative Minority Health and Equity Task Force, in conjunction with Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Region and United Way of the Greater Capital Area, hosts a community art contest that asks youth from across Albany County to show what a healthy lifestyle means to them in minority communities, highlighting common health issues and disparities between communities of color (heart disease, diabetes, nutrition, etc.).

OFFICIAL RULES

  • Youth ages 6-18 (Grades 1-12)
  • Must be an Albany County resident
  • Theme for the artistic category “Healthy Lifestyles in Communities of Color”.
  • The artwork can be a drawing, painting, watercolor, charcoal, pastels, etc.

Any violation of these rules may, at the discretion of the Boys and Girls Club, result in disqualification. All decisions regarding this program are final and binding in all respects.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Only new artwork inspired by the theme can be submitted.
  • Each entry must be the original work of a single young person.
    • An adult cannot tamper with the integrity of the young person’s work
    • The contest is designed to encourage and recognize the efforts of every young person individual creativity
    • Adult assistance or collaboration with other young people is not permitted.

  • All artwork must include complete entries containing:
    • The participant’s name,
    • Their age,
    • their school level,
    • Their school district,
    • The name of the entrant’s parent or guardian as well as their email address and phone number.
    • A “Artist statementof no more than two sentences that communicates what inspired the work, how it relates to the theme “Healthy Living in Communities of Color” and the content of the work. If possible, please attach the artist’s statement to the back of the entry.

The use of copyrighted material (images) or trademarks (company names, logos, brands, etc.) is prohibited. Plagiarized entries will be disqualified.

ENTRY SUBMISSIONS

  • Entries can be mailed or dropped off at:
    • Capital Region Boys and Girls Clubs
      21 Delaware Avenue, Albany, NY 12210

  • The registration period begins on April 11, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. and ends April 25, 2022 at 9:00 p.m..

PRICE

  • Three winners will be selected per category.
  • The categories will be separated by:
    • primary school age,
    • College age, and
    • Secondary school students.

  • Winners’ artwork will be featured in the lobby of the Harold L. Joyce Albany County Office Building, on social media pages, and displayed on Albany County Legislature promotional materials.

Further information

  • Entries may be exhibited by the Albany County Legislature and the Boys and Girls Club.
  • The judges will review all entries and select their top 9 (3 per age group).
  • No purchase or fee is necessary to participate.
