Speaking to the media, Bhupender Yadav said under Deb’s leadership there has been a lot of development in the state over the past 4 years. Today, he said, Deb tendered her resignation to the governor. The senior leader said a legislative party meeting will be held at 8 p.m. and a new leader will be elected to replace Deb, whose departure comes just under a year before the assembly elections.

Jishnu Dev Varma was deputy of Biplab Kumar Deb. He was elected in Charilam constituency in a by-election with a margin of over 25,000 votes. He obtained 89% of the votes against Palash Debbarma, his competitor from the CPIM, who obtained 3.46% of the votes.

After resigning, Biplab Deb said he should work in the organization to form the BJP government in Tripura. “To strengthen the base of the BJP in the state, I have to work at the grassroots level in various sectors. I should work as a common Karyakarta (party worker) rather than being in the position of CM to train the BJP government in the coming assembly elections,” he said.
